# How to Activate the App on a Theme

Before Rubik Variant Images & Swatch can control your product gallery or display swatches, you need to activate the app on your Shopify theme using the App Embed system.
This guide explains how to enable both the variant image gallery and the swatch picker.

### 1. Enable Variant Image Gallery on Your Theme

1. Open the **Rubik Variant Images & Swatch** app.
2. Go to the **Activated Themes** tab.
3. Select your live or draft theme from the dropdown menu.
4. Click **Enable on Theme Editor**. Shopify will open the theme customizer automatically.
5. In the theme editor, open the **App Embeds** panel on the left side.
6. Toggle **Rubik Variant Images & Swatch** to **ON**.
7. Click **Save** to apply your changes.

Once enabled, Rubik Variant Images & Swatch will start controlling variant image behavior on your product pages.

### 2. Enable Swatches on Your Theme

1. In the Rubik app, click **Swatch (Variant Picker)** from the left menu.
2. Toggle **Swatch Status** to **Enabled**.
3. Select your theme and click **Enable on Theme Editor**.
4. Shopify will open the theme customizer.
5. Go to **App Embeds** and toggle **Rubik Swatch** to **ON**.
6. Click **Save**.

After activation, swatches will replace Shopify's default variant dropdowns.

|| You can enable both the gallery and swatch features on multiple themes. This is ideal if you want to test your setup on a draft theme before publishing it live.
